On December 20th we concluded our 50th anniversary celebrations with a mortgage burning and by burying the time capsule containing photos and information about our church’s first 50 years.
Prior to the burial event, members of the youth group used our memorial golden shovel to help dig the hole for the time capsule at the base of the labyrinth.
While the initial plan was to burn the mortgage and bury the time capsule on our 50th anniversary, December 17th, we were rained out and forced to reschedule. Thus it was that on the 20th, we joined together at the labyrinth to perform the two ceremonies.
After members of the church took turns shoveling dirt over the time capsule and the ashes of our “mortgage,” the congregation returned to the Fellowship Hall to enjoy a soup supper as well as our giant anniversary cake.
