Thirty-one Saint Peter volunteers gathered in the Fellowship Hall on July 26th, where Pastor Wade greeted us with a blessing over our efforts as well as for the recipients of the backpacks we came to assemble. Marilyn Lippard had set us up for success by managing the tags for the children to receive backpacks, with their sizes and preferences (red was very popular), all of which was recorded on a spreadsheet.
Barbara Weissenberger had the school supplies and assembly line ready to go. She gave us a few directions and we were able to quickly pack the school supplies and combine them with the clothing purchased recently by our shoppers. The assembly activity went very well!
Thanks to the generosity of all our Saint Peter and community volunteers and donors, we finished 52 backpacks overflowing with clothes, supplies and so much love for the children for whom they were prepared, ready for pickup by Brunswick Family Assistance.
Once all the backpacks were completed, we enjoyed a time of fellowship with wonderful box lunches prepared by Colleen and Lewis Weathers. Many of us were able to stay and enjoy each others’ company, making yet another sweet Saint Peter memory!
