Christmas Activities at Saint Peter

Interested in the ways Saint Peter celebrates Christmas? Read here about our annual December events, and plan to join us throughout the season to add meaning to the Christmas experience you and your friends and family share together.

  • In early December each year, Saint Peter presents Journey to the Manger, a live nativity walk with several scenes featuring the story of the nativity. We welcome 200-300 folks from outside the church who just want a special Christmas memory to share with friends and family. After the short walk we have cocoa and snacks for enjoying around the fire. Christmas music is provided by members of the church choir and the Brunswick Brass.

  • Another annual Christmas treat is our Advent Cantata Concert. We feature the choir, handbell choir, and bring in our favorite musicians to make the evening extra special. The 2024 cantata centered around the composition Love! by Joel Raney. To watch the live-streamed version, click here.

  • One tradition that the congregation likes to keep is hosting one or more Advent Soup Suppers after our Wednesday evening serves during Advent. These suppers provide not only a seasonal moment of fellowship, but also the opportunity to give to a special cause.

  • The anticipation culminates on Christmas Eve with two candlelight services at 4:30 and 7:00pm. The pipe organ fills the church with a solemn joy as we sing our favorite carols together by candlelight. The church choir and bell choir often lend their talents to the evening services as well. All are invited to come and rejoice, for God has kept his promise and sent us a Savior, who is Christ the Lord!

  • In the Liturgical Year of the Lutheran church, the Christmas season begins on December 25th and ends on Epiphany, January 6th. This period is also known as Christmastide, during which there are two or three Sundays of Christmas. We rejoice in these services that again ring out the good news, that Christ the Savior is born!

  • The Sunday following Epiphany is when the Church celebrates the Baptism of Christ, thus beginning Ordinary Time.
