Join your parish nurses in a faith-filled initiative that explores the connection between Body, Mind, and Spirit…and Faith. Here are some ways that the mind, body, and spirit are connected to fitness:
- Body: Holistic fitness includes a variety of exercises, such as strength-training and yoga, to promote physical well-being.
- Mind: A positive mindset can help with motivation, resilience, and optimism. Your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can affect your body’s health.
- Spirit: Practices like mindfulness, prayer, and meditation can promote a sense of calm and balance. Some say that working out can be a spiritual practice that releases emotions and energy and activates energy centers.
Throughout 2025, we’ll introduce our congregation and community to inspirational thought leaders and teachers who share their best practices for greater health. Here’s the schedule:
January 11th: Hear Ginny MacColl, the oldest competitive female ninja athlete according to the 2024 Guinness Book of World Records. Ginny competes regionally in ninja competitions and local, state, and national swim meets. A highlight of her ongoing film career was appearing as Evelyn, one of Diane Keaton’s eight cheerleader friends in the 2018 movie POMS. She’s the one doing the splits!
January 18th: Speaking of cheerleaders, Joan Bray is one of our favorites! A longtime Physical Therapist, Joan brought her practice to Brunswick Physical Therapy after the pandemic, and we couldn’t be more pleased. She’ll be speaking on Fall Prevention, with useful information for families of all ages. Did you know more than one million people in the U.S. require emergency medical care each year due to a slip or fall? That’s more than 2,000 people per day! Falls can be prevented with lifestyle changes and safety measures, so mark your calendars and come hear Joan’s words of wisdom.
Why Faith-Fueled Fitness? Just as we worship God through our religious practices, wholistic fitness can increase faith. We show gratitude to God for our health and our bodies, which regularly overcome the physical restraints in our lives. In the same way, our minds overcome many of life’s obstacles. Just as we exercise our bodies and minds, we exercise our faith through practice and devotion. The connection between these three is how we can honor God.
