Remembering a Remarkable Woman

A most important type of giving.

Each December, Saint Peter holds its annual Kathy Railo Memorial Blood Drive. Kathy passed away in 2021. She was known not only at church but in the community for her passions: nursing, dog rescue, and organizing much-needed blood drives. In fact, Kathy pressed on in these interests even after she developed health issues in 2020.

Within the church, Kathy was a key member of the shepherding program. This program provides oversight of members by church lay leaders, to ensure all who need assistance and/or prayer receive care. She was the first Lead Shepherd of the program, and remained an instrumental advocate for many years.

As an animal lover, Kathy personally rescued a poodle named Khloe that had been kept in a breeding facility. Over time, through her loving care, Khloe was socialized and truly blossomed. From that point on, Khloe became a regular member of the blood drive staff at Saint Peter.

Kathy’s husband Doug tries to bring Khloe to the church for each year’s drive, where she can be found in the Narthex.

In November you can sign up for an appointment to give blood at the Railo memorial drive. Go to the Red Cross website and enter the code SPLC. We also have a drive each summer – watch for announcements!
